Virk Gets Nod for BCHL Top Prospects Game

The Chilliwack Chiefs are excited to announce that 2007-born forward Savin Virk will represent the team at the upcoming BCHL Top Prospects Game.

“We’re very happy for Savin to be given this opportunity. It’s never easy for a young player to enter this league, especially this season. He’s had a ton of success at such a young age,” said Chiefs Head Coach and General Manager Brian Maloney. “Sometimes young players expect to keep having success right away. Savin has come into this season understanding that it’s a big jump from the league he was playing in. No one’s denying his offensive abilities, but it’s the other areas away from the puck where he’s put a ton of work in.”

Last week, the Surrey, BC product was named the league’s top star of the week after leading the BCHL with six points in two games (3 goals, 3 assists).

“He’s come into this season with a fantastic attitude and understands he needs to improve in all areas. Now we’re seeing that he’s getting rewarded with ice time and producing for us,” said Maloney.

He has 13 points (7 goals, 6 assists) in 28 games in his rookie season so far.

The 16-year-old Virk also earned his NCAA commitment this season with Michigan State University.

He will be joining teammate Brady Milburn at the game in Penticton on Friday, January 19th, at 6pm.

“Go have some fun, Savin; the Chief’s family is proud of you,” said Maloney.

Virk will be replacing a previously-named player who is now injured.

Tickets are available now here.
