The Chilliwack Chiefs are extremely excited to announce that Savin Virk has committed to play his NCAA hockey with the Michigan State Spartans.
Virk, a 2007-born forward, is set to join the Chiefs for his first full BCHL season this September. Last year, he played for the Yale Hockey Academy U18 Prep team. In just 29 games, the Surrey product scored 47 points (26 goals and 21 assists).
“NCAA schools see the same thing we do, and that’s a high-end 2007 prospect who is just starting to scratch the surface of what he can become. We’re excited to watch Savin grow over the next couple of years,” said Chiefs Head Coach and General Manager Brian Maloney. “If he’s patient and puts in the work, which I know he will, he’ll become a really special player.
Last season, Virk geared by for the Chiefs as an AP for two regular season games and two more in the playoffs.
As an alumni of Michigan State, Maloney says he feels Virk and the Spartans coaching staff will be a great match.
“I think with their caring personalities, the Virk family really felt comfortable with them, one of the reasons why he chose Michigan State over a lot of other fantastic options,” Maloney continued.
Virk echoed his Chiefs coach on his decision.
“I am very excited and looking forward to putting on the Spartan jersey. I have a lot of respect for the MSU coaches and can’t wait to begin working with them. The facilities are top tier and it’s a great program that will continue to help develop me in my hockey journey,” said Virk.
