Cheya Grant and Kirsten Hijdra Join Chiefs as Strength/Conditioning Coaches

The Chilliwack Chiefs are proud to announce Cheya Grant and Kirsten Hijdra as the team’s newest Strength & Conditioning Coaches.

Grant and Hijdra, owners of The Training Shed, join the Chiefs with extensive experience working with high-performance athletes for over 20 years.

The two met while Hijdra was working as a fitness supervisor and Grant as a personal trainer. They connected over their passion for working with athletes and as mothers to four children each. Because of this, Grant and Hijdra decided to team up to train youth athletes around the Valley.

Since starting their business together this past winter, they have already worked with athletes playing hockey, lacrosse, football, soccer, basketball, and more in Chilliwack.

“We are excited to add Kirsten and Cheya to our group and our building. These two are very motivated professionals who will definitely continue to not only help develop our student-athletes but should really help with the younger teams in our community,” said Chiefs Head Coach and General Manager Brian Maloney.

Grant and Hijdra will now train with the Chiefs and their other athletes in the Chiefs Athletic Zone located at the Coliseum.

“Off-ice training is sadly sometimes missed in young athletes and parents. We hope local athletes take advantage of this great opportunity in our community. We know the Chiefs are,” said Maloney.

“We’re passionate about working with elite Athletes to help give them that extra edge to take them to the next level. Strength and conditioning with intention and focus can place these guys one step ahead, and that’s our mission,” said Hijdra. “We’re about catching the instabilities before they become injuries while increasing strength, power, and functionality.”

Hijdra comes with a vast coaching background. Born and raised in Ontario, with stops in Switzerland and the Netherlands, her family decided to call Chilliwack home in 2020. She has coached a variety of competitive sports and holds a number of certifications, including NCCP Level Two in multiple sports, CrossFit Master Specialized Trainer, and more.

Grant moved to Chilliwack with her family in 2018. Working with a number of athletes during her career, she is a BCRPA certified Personal Trainer, Weight Trainer, and Group Fitness Instructor. She has had experience as a Spin Instructor and training in Sports Mindset.

“Our passion is to see these young athletes grow and develop, not only physically, but also mentally. I’m honoured and excited to be working with the Chilliwack Chiefs organization and witnessing the team grow in strength and character. My family and I will be in the stands cheering on our home team,” said Grant.
