Chiefs Win Chilliwack Community Impact Award

The Chilliwack Chiefs were honoured to receive the “Community Impact Award” this past weekend at the Chilliwack Chamber Business Excellence Awards.

The award, sponsored by Metric Civil, goes to a business in the community that has

“a positive impact on the Chilliwack community through positive interactions with partners and organizations, purposeful relationships with non-profits and support services within Chilliwack, and creating a positive influence on a minority or disadvantaged group in our community. This is not about the amount of money sponsored at events or through donations, it is about a commitment to the betterment of our community through strategic partnerships and unique initiatives.”

The Chiefs are proud to give back to the community, which has supported the team for many years.

Last season, the Chiefs players and staff volunteered over 1,100 person-hours and are on pace for similar numbers again this year.

“This award really means a lot to our organization. Although we don’t do what we do for recognition, it’s a real honor,” said team Governor and Vice-President Barry Douglas. “For us, this is about celebrating our current and past players and all their efforts.”

Chiefs players can be found weekly in the community coaching Special Olympics floor hockey, visiting schools as part of The Bookman’s “Read with the Chiefs” program, delivering for Chilliwack Community Services’ “Meals on Wheels,” and participating in many other events.

Along with the players being out throughout the city, the Chiefs are proud to partner with several groups and organizations in the Fraser Valley through countless donations of tickets, merchandise, and game night experiences.

“There were so many great organizations nominated for this award. We are just so thankful to be part of this community and for all the support throughout the years. We look forward to the future,” said Douglas.

The Chiefs next home game is February 3rd at the Chilliwack Coliseum for “Canucks Autism Network” Night presented by Club16 Trevor Linden Fitness.

The game will feature decreased volume of music and P.A. announcements during the game, a designated Quiet Room for anyone who needs a break from the sensory-rich environment, and more!
