Bell’s OT goal gives Chiefs win in Prince George

The Chiefs earned a split of their weekend series in Prince George with a 2-1 overtime win Saturday night.

Rory Bell was the hero, scoring his first goal of the season with 16 seconds left in the first five minute overtime period.

The win improves the Chiefs season record to 5-1-0-0.

Jeremiah Luedtke gave the Spruce Kings a 1-0 lead at the 8:18 mark of the first period, a lead they held till late in the third period.

A shorthanded breakaway goal by Jake Larson, his fourth of the season with just under seven minutes left in the third tied the game at one.

Larson was involved in the winning goal as well. After gaining the offensive blueline he slid the puck over to Brandon Tkachkuk who put a low shot on the Spruce Kings goal. Bell, driving the net deflected the puck behind Kings netminder Alex Brooks-Potts to give the Chiefs the win.

Aidan Pelino made 23 saves to earn the win for the Chiefs. Final shots on goal favored the Chiefs 38-24.

The Chiefs were 0/5 with the man advantage and 4/4 on the penalty kill.

Game notes: Mason Boh, Jake Hand, and Mark Esposito did not play for the Chiefs…Chiefs forward Tanner Campbell was ejected from the game in the second period for checking from behind.
