Marrocco provides overtime heroics

PJ Marracco’s goal with 1:25 left in the first overtime gave the Chiefs a 2-1 win over the visiting Surrey Eagles Friday night.

It was the Chiefs (17-15-2-2) third win in five games versus the Eagles this season. All three wins including two on home ice have come in overtime.

Both goaltenders were sharp in this one. Surrey’s Daniel Davidson turned away 39 Chiefs shots while Chilliwack rookie Mathieu Caron earned his 11th win of the season with a 26 save performance.

Corey Andonovski game the Chiefs a 1-0 lead, finishing off a two on one break with Chiefs Captain Will Calverley at the 3:42 mark of the second period. The goal was Andonovski’s 9th of the season.

The lead held until Owen Norton beat Caron to tie the game at one with just over nine minutes left in third period.

Both teams were perfect on the penalty kill. The Eagles were 8/8 while the Chiefs were 4/4.

Chilliwack is in Coquitlam Saturday before returning to home ice Saturday January 6th when they host the Eagles.
