Chiefs edge Express 3-2

Jake Gresh’s goals with 71 seconds gone in the third period broke a 2-2 tie and held up as the winner as the Chiefs edged the Coquitlam Express 3-2 Saturday night in Coquitlam.

The win was the second straight for the Chiefs (18-15-2-2) and their 26th straight win including playoffs over the Express.

Chilliwack got off to a quick start in this one, taking a 2-0 lead before the game was five minutes old.

Kaden Pickering opened the scoring at the 3:08 mark while the Chiefs were on the man advantage.  The goal was Pickering’s 10th of the season.

Ninety five seconds later Anthony Vincent finished of a nifty three way passing play to up the Chiefs lead to 2-0. Adam Berg and Skyler Brind’Amour earned the assists.

Former Chief Jordan Schulting got the Express within one with just over six minutes left in the first when his point shot eluded Chiefs netminder Mathieu Caron.

Colby Pederson’s shorthanded goal at the 14:21 mark of the middle period knotted the game at two.

The Chiefs dominated the final period, out shooting the Express 14-2. Final shots in the game were 29-12.

Chilliwack finished 1/4 on the power play and 6/6 on the penalty kill.

Next up for the Chiefs is a home game on Saturday versus the Surrey Eagles.
