Chilliwack Plays Alberni Valley and Surrey in Last Games Before the Holidays

By Ryleigh Mulvihill

The Chilliwack Chiefs play their last games before the holiday break at the Coliseum. Friday, December 15th brings in the Alberni Valley Bulldogs, while Saturday, December 16th sees a rematch from last weekend against the Surrey Eagles.

The Chiefs are looking to have a more successful weekend than last when facing off against the top two teams in the Coastal Division. Now 12-11-1, Chilliwack lost both Mainland Cup matchups. The 16-10-0 Alberni Valley Bulldogs would also like to rebound after a lacklustre showing against Merritt. The Surrey Eagles still sit on top of the division with an 18-4-1 record.

After a flurry of trades the past few weeks Chilliwack has been solidifying their team for the long run. However, a familiar face that has been playing well lately. That player is Dylan Kinch. The Calgary, AB native scored the goal that sent the toques, scarves, and mittens flying last game. Against a Surrey team that can be hard to crack, he has two points this season.

Chilliwack will see the top two scorers in the BCHL. The Bulldog’s dangerous centreman Nicholas Beneteau averages over a point a game (1.31). He is dependable on the first line to set up consistent linemate Fischer O’Brien. The BCHL All-Star is the key to Alberni Valley’s goal-scoring.

In five games played against the Chiefs, Surrey Eagles forward Caden Cranston has nine points. The entirety of the Eagles roster is talented, but if the Chiefs want to focus on taming one player, it should be Cranston.

Even though the Eagles have some of the top goal scorers, they do not average a high number of goals a game. In the last six games, Surrey has scored three goals or less. If the Chiefs can break through their tight defence core and put up a few goals early they could get the rematch victory.

Chilliwack is looking forward to an agenda of theme nights. Come spend your evening with Darth Vader, some Storm Troopers, and the Star Wars franchise on Star Wars Night in support of BC Children’s Hospital. There will also be a costume contest for the best Star Wars outfit, so dress your best!

The weather may be chilly outside, but grab your Hawaiian shirt and come warm up inside at the Winter Beach Party on Saturday.

Contact the Chief’s office at 604-392-4433 or stop by the Chilliwack Coliseum to purchase your tickets. Tickets are also available anytime online.
