Kevin Wall and Ethan Bowen each scored twice and Mathieu Caron earned his league leading 13th win of the season to help lead the Chiefs to a 5-2 win in Trail Friday.
The win improved the Chiefs record to a league best 13-4-0-0. Trail dropped to 7-5-2-1.
Chiefs forward Ethan Bowen opened the scoring with his fourth of the season at the 3:41 mark of the game’s opening period.
The designed play was started by defenseman Alex Marrocco who found forward Cole Donhauser along the left boards at center ice. Donhauser’s one touch pass to Skyler Brind’Amour sprung the Chiefs on a two on none break.
Brind’Amour found Bowen at the goal mouth and Bowen made no mistake putting the puck behind Trail goaltender Adam Marcoux.
With just over nine minutes left in the first, Chiefs forward Kevin Wall finished off a nifty passing play rifling his twelfth of the season past Marcoux from the right hashmarks. The goal came with the Chiefs on a two man advantage. Assists went to Brind’Amour and Marcus Tesink.
Two minutes later the Smoke Eaters got within one on Carter Jones’ fourth of the season.
Through twenty minutes the Chiefs led in shots by a margin of 16-7.
Wall struck again at the 7:49 mark of the second period to up the Chiefs lead to 3-1. The goal, his league leading 13th, finished off a three on two break that ended with Blaisdell gaining the opposing blue line and finding Wall in the left faceoff circle. Wall’s wrister beat Marcoux and the Chiefs were up by two.
With seven minutes left in the middle stanza, Bowen skated on to a loose puck in the Trail zone and beat the defender wide right before outwaiting Marcoux and tucking home his second of the game. Maracco and Brett Willits picked up the helpers.
With three minutes left in the second Kent Johnson finished off a Trail rush to make it 4-2 Chiefs after forty minutes. The goal was Johnson’s seventh of the season.
Donhauser added his fifth of the season into an empty net with a dozen second left in the third period.
Final shots on goal in the game favored the Chiefs 35-24.
Chilliwack was 1/4 on the power play and 5/5 on the penalty kill.
The Chiefs are back in action Saturday night when they visit the Penticton Vees. The next home game is Friday October 26 versus the Victoria Grizzlies.
