Chiefs Fall To Eagles in Double Overtime 3-2

The Chilliwack Chiefs took to the road Thursday night to take on Mainland Division rivals the Surrey Eagles. Out shooting the Eagles 13-7 in the opening frame the Chiefs took a 1-0 lead into the dressing room thanks to Cole Poliziani’s sixth goal of the season scored off a 2 on 1 break.

The Eagles finally answered back late in the second period with  Jordan Robert tipping in a point shot for his sixth goal of the season. The second period would end tied one. The Chiefs once again out shot the Eagles firing 13 shots on former West Kelowna Warrior goaltender Keelan Williams whom the Eagles acquired on December 3rd in exchange for Logan Mostat and future considerations.

Both teams exchanged goals in the third period with Carver Watson scoring his sixth of the season to give the Chiefs a 2-1 lead. But Ashton Calder answered back to tie the game at 2 and force overtime.

Despite carrying a majority of the play in overtime the Chiefs were unable to capitalize to end the game. In the dying seconds of the first overtime Chiefs forward, Kale Kane had two glorious chances to end the game, left all alone in front of the Eagles net Kane had not one but two chances to score but Williams stoned him on both opportunities.

At 3:38 of the second overtime the Eagles Ashton Calder notched his second of the game to give the Eagles the 3-2 win.

The fifth place Eagles now sit one point back of the fourth place Langley Rivermen while the Chiefs still hold down second place with 45 points, 4 back of the division leading Wenatchee Wild.
