Chiefs drop pair in Wenatchee

The Chiefs earned just one point in a pair of games in Wenatchee this weekend. Saturday the home town Wild came from behind to win 5-4.

Sunday it took overtime to decide it but it was the Wild prevailing 3-2.

Saturday the Chiefs were led offensively by Aaron O’Neill who scored his second and third goals of the season. Connor McCarthy and Kale Kane also scored for the Chiefs.

Chilliwack led 2-1 after one and 4-2 after two. It was the first time this season the Chiefs have lost when leading after forty minute (20-1-1-0).

Charlie Combs scored twice in the third period including a shorthanded goal to get the Wild within one and the winning goal.

Aidan Pelino started for Chilliwack but was replaced by Matteo Esposito after giving up the tying goal in the third period.

Chase Perry went the distance in goal for the Wild.

In Sunday’s game the Chiefs led 1-0 after one on a breakaway goal by Eric Benshadle.

Charlie Combs continued his hot streak for the Wild, scoring the only goal of the middle frame.

A goal by Colin Burston 61 seconds into the third period gave the Wild their first lead of the game.

With Chiefs goaltender Aidan Pelino on the bench for the extra attacker Jordan Kawaguchi scored with 1:28 left to send the game to overtime.

The extra frame didn’t last long as Mike Coyne gave the Wild the victory just 46 seconds in.

Chilliwack returns to home ice when they host the Langley Rivermen on Wednesday. Game time is 7pm.
