Mathieu Caron made 33 saves and Skyler Brind’Amour had a goal and two assists to help lead the Chiefs to a 4-1 win over the visiting Wenatchee Wild Saturday night.
The win moved the Chiefs record to a league best 9-3-0-0 while the Wild, who have played nothing but road games so far this season dropped to 5-6-0-0.
A slow start by the Chiefs saw the Wild get nine of the game’s first ten shots on goal.
Shaking that off the Chiefs struck for two quick goals to take a 2-0 lead.
Defenseman Callum Volpe started things with a perfect pass from his own zone to Skyler Brind’Amour at the Wild blueline. Brind’amour’s saucer pass landed right on the stick of Trevor Peca who knocked home his first of the season to make it 1-0 Chilliwack. The goal came with 3:39 left in the opening period.
Thirty five seconds later it was Brind’Amour scoring his second of the season to double the Chiefs lead. Assists on the goal went to Cole Donhauser and Powell Connor.
That was the end of the night for Wild goaltender Cal Sundquist who gave way to Austin Park after giving up two goals on ten shots.
Shots after twenty minutes favored the visitors 14-10.
Early in the second it was Chiefs forward Matt Holmes increasing the lead to 3-0. Taking a pass from Brett Willits, Holmes broke down the left wing on a two on one with Kevin Wall. Using Wall as a decoy, Holmes put his sixth of the season over the glove of Park.
With the Chiefs on their first power play of the night, it was the Wild scoring shorthanded to get within a pair. The goal came off the stick of Matt Gosiewski who beat Chiefs goaltender Mathieu Caron with a backhand to forehand deke on a breakaway for his sixth and the Wild’s first shorthanded goal of the season.
Kevin Wall’s eighth of the season into an empty net with 67 seconds left finished off the scoring.
Chilliwack finished the night 0/5 on the power play and 6/6 on the penalty kill.
