Chiefs down Rivermen 3-2

Matt Holmes goal with 61 seconds left in the third broke a two all tie and gave the Chiefs a 3-2 win over the Langley Rivermen in Langley Friday night.

The win improved the Chiefs record to 16-6-0-0 on the season. They remain in first place in the mainland division, one point up on the Coquitlam Express who defeated the Vernon Vipers 4-1 Friday night.

The first period started well for the Visitors. The same can’t be said for how it ended.

Chilliwack got the early start when forward Ethan Bowen beat Braedon Fleming for his 8th goal is the season 38 seconds in. Skyler Brind’Amour and Cole Donhauser earned the assists.

The lead held until Mark Gallant’s shot beat Chiefs goaltender with just a tenth of a second left on the first period clock.

At the 3:38 mark of the second Kevin Wall took a pass from Matt Holmes and beat Fleming to give the Chiefs a 2-1 lead. For Wall, the league’s top rookie scorer, it was his 16th goal of the season.

Early in the third, Matteo Pecchia scored shorthanded for the Rivermen to tie the game at two.

Chilliwack returns to action Saturday night when they host the Salmon Arm Silverbacks. Game time is 7pm.
