Chiefs 5 Express 4 OT

Kurt Black's goal at the 3:29 mark of the second overtime period gave the Chiefs a 5-4 win in Coquitlam Wednesday.

Jordan Kawaguchi scored twice including one of three shorthanded goals scored by the Chiefs in the second period.

Kawaguchi scored the lone goal of the first period on a nifty solo rush. After weaving his way through the Express defense, Kawaguchi snapped the puck past goaltender Chris Tai for his first goal of the season.

Chilliwack increased their lead to 4-0 in the second period with three straight shorthanded goals. Jake Hand made it 2-0 snapping home a shot from the left wing at the 6:11 mark. Three minutes later Hand sprung Ryan Bowen on a shorthanded breakaway. Bowen made no mistake using a backhand to beat Tai in close. Kawaguchi's second of the game made it 4-0 with 8:11 left in the middle frame.

The Express started their come back with two late second period goals by Cody Boyd and Jackson Cressey.

In the third, Corey Mackin's power play goal at 9:23 got the Express within one. With just over three minutes left in regulation, Coquitlam completed the comeback when Joey Santucci took advantage of a sloppy Chiefs line change to sneak past the defense and slip the tying goal past Chiefs netminder Aidan Pelino.

The Express finishied 2/9 on the power play. Chilliwack was 0/2.

Final shots favored the Express 38-25.

The Chiefs will be on the Island this weekend with games in Powell River Friday, Alberni Valley Saturday and Nanaimo Sunday afternoon.

Chilliwack returns to home ice Wednesday November 19th when they host the Prince George Spruce Kings.
