Chiefs 3 Grizzlies 1

Mark Sinclair turned away 23 shots as the Chiefs earned their second win in as many days on Vancouver Island, downing the Victoria Grizzlies 3-1 Sunday afternoon.

For the second straight night the Chiefs (7-3-1-0) gave up the game’s first goal.

With just over two minutes left in the first Lucas Clark set up Jamie Rome in front of the Chiefs net who quickly put the puck behind Sinclair.

Trailing 1-0 after 20 minutes the Chiefs tallied twice on the power play to take a 2-1 lead after two periods.

At the 6:28 mark, Jordan Kawaguchi (7) tied the game when he dug the puck out of a goal mouth frenzy and roofed the puck behind Grizzlies netminder Matthew Galajda.

With 2:38 left in the middle frame Jake Smith (3) tipped home a Connor McCarthy point shot to give the Chiefs the lead.

After a strong forecheck to start the third Kohen Olischefski (4) found a loose puck in front of the Grizzlies net and gave the Chiefs a two goal cushion with just 28 seconds gone in the period.

The Chiefs killed two penalties in the game’s final eight minutes to preserve the win.

Final shots favored the Chiefs 26-24.

Chilliwack went 2/5 with the man advantage and 4/4 on the penalty kill.

Chiefs now return to home ice for a pair of games next weekend.

Saturday the Vernon Vipers visit Propspera Centre. Sunday at 5pm Chilliwack hosts the Alberni Valley Bulldogs. Fans are reminded they are invited to join the Chiefs for a skate after the game.
