The Chilliwack Chiefs are proud to announce that Goaltending Coach Mackenzie Skapski has accepted a development goaltending coaching position with the Calgary Wranglers of the AHL.
The 28-year-old former professional netminder joined the organization in 2020 and worked with not only the Chiefs but with countless goalies in the Fraser Valley.
“I want to thank coach Brian, Brad, Andrew, and the rest of the Chilliwack Chief organization for a fantastic opportunity to grow as a coach. It was always a pleasure coming to the rink and working alongside good people who are professional and passionate. I look forward to keeping tabs on the continued success in Chilliwack and in net,” said Skapski.
“We’re extremely happy for Mackenzie. He has put an immense amount of time and effort into his craft and is constantly on the ice developing youth all over the Lower Mainland and even into the States,” said Chiefs Head Coach and General Manager Brian Maloney. “Not far removed from the game as a player, Skapper was able to connect with the young players quickly as a coach. That combined with his care for the players’ results in a pretty darn good coach. The Calgary Flames organization is getting a hard-working coach that has a heart of gold. You’ve made the Chilliwack Chiefs proud.”
Best of luck to Mackenzie and family in Calgary!
The Chiefs will be announcing a new Goaltending Coach in the coming days.
