Kings take 2-1 series lead with overtime win

Patrick Cozzi’s goal at the 10:40 mark of the first overtime gave the Prince George Spruce Kings a 2-1 win at Prospera Centre in Chilliwack Monday night. The win gives the Kings a 2-1 series lead in the best of seven series.

After a scoreless first period, Will Calverley gave the Chiefs a 1-0 lead with his second of the playoffs at the 6:01 mark of the second period. Harrison Blaisdell picked up the primary assist on the play getting the puck through a maze of players in to the Kings crease where Calverley was able to redirect it behind Prince George netminder Evan DeBrouwer.

The Kings got the equalizer with 2:55 left in the middle frame.

After the Chiefs were unable to clear the puck out of their zone, the puck found itself on the stick of Kings defenseman Chays Ruddy at the left points. His rocket of a shot, his first of both the regular season and playoffs found its way through a wall of players behind Chiefs goaltender Daniel Chenard.

The three stars were DeBrouwer (first), Blaisdell (second) and Chenard (third).

The Energy Player of the Game was Adam Berg.

The series resumes Tuesday night with at Prospera Centre. Game time is 7pm
