Chiefs Sign Defenceman Gabriel Anctil

Chilliwack, BC — The Chilliwack Chiefs are pleased to announce the signing of Canadian defenceman Gabriel Anctil.

Anctil is a left-handed shot, an area of need for the Chiefs following the departures of Darik Olson and Olivier Beaulieu, as well as the season-ending surgery to defenceman Ty Campbell.

Standing at 6’2” and 215 pounds, Anctil brings a strong physical presence to the blue line and fits well within the Chiefs’ defensive structure, using his size and long reach effectively in his own zone.

“Offensively, Gabriel’s game is defined by intelligence and poise rather than flash. He makes smart decisions with the puck and moves it efficiently, and we feel those traits will translate very well at this level,” said Head Coach and General Manager Brian Maloney. “With where we’re at on the back end, bringing in a left-shot defenceman was a priority for us. Gabriel gives us size, reach, and a high hockey IQ. We really like his upside and feel he’ll fit nicely within our structure. We are excited to help him continue to develop his game.”

Anctil will have the opportunity to step into a significant role and log meaningful minutes.

“I’m honored to have the opportunity to come and play in Chilliwack, I can’t wait to get started!” said Anctil

Anctil will be on the ice this Wednesday, January 21st, when we host the Nanaimo Clippers at 7 pm.

Welcome to the Chiefs, Gabriel!
