Two very special guests will be in the building tonight when the Chiefs host the Prince George Spruce Kings. Both Santa and Lilee Jean Putt will be there and I’m not sure which of the two is more famous right now.

By now I’m sure you’ve heard LJ’s story. She’s had a rough few months but got some very good news last Friday when an MRI revealed her tumor had shrunk to half the size. The band’s song “Pray (for LJ)” went number one on ITunes last week with all proceeds going to BC Children’s Hospital. It’s an excellent song for an excellent cause. The band also wrote and recorded the song “Go Chiefs Go” which you can see on the videotron just before the start of each Chiefs home game. LJ, her mom and her dad

will all be taking part in the ceremonial puck drop prior to the game.

Friday is also the second Read with the Chiefs Night. Classes from the following elementary schools will be in attendance:  Yarrow, Watson, Greendale, Cultas Lake, East Chilliwack, Kent, and Sardis.

Also at Friday’s game, the Chiefs store will have new Chiefs scarves priced at just 8.99 for the first 75 customers. You can check out the scarf with Chiefs Head Coach Harvey Smyl modelling it (and looking like he’s ready for the cover of GQ) on both the Chiefs website and facebook page on Thursday.

The Chiefs are on a six game winning streak and have built themselves a slight cushion in third place in the Interior Conference. I don’t mean to jinx them by saying this but the team record for most consecutive wins is twelve set during the 1995-96 season.

They’re six points up on both the Spruce Kings and Vernon Vipers and hold games in hand on both teams. The Chiefs will finish the pre-holiday portion of the schedule in Vernon on Sunday afternoon after visiting Salmon Arm on Saturday. Looking up the Chiefs trail the second place Merritt Centennials by three points but they’ve played four fewer games than Merritt.

A huge part of the Chiefs success this season has been their play on home ice where they have a record of 11-3-0-0. Only the high flying Penticton Vees, with one, have fewer home losses than the Chiefs. If they can keep their current pace they would finish with just under the team record of 26 home wins which is yet another team record set during the 1995-96 season.

Fan response to Fill the Rink for the Food Bank has been excellent so far. If you haven’t heard, tickets for the Chiefs December 28th home game vs Prince George are just $5 with a donation to the Salvation Army Food Bank. Season ticket holders can bring a friend to the game for free, again with a donation to the food bank.
