The Chiefs suffered their first loss of the season Friday night, dropping a 4-1 decision to the Vernon Vipers in Vernon.
The Vipers, who are three time defending league champions are still perfect on the season with a record of 6-0-0-0. The Chiefs fell to 2-1-0-0.
After a scoreless first period in which the Chiefs were outshot 12-5, the Vipers took at 2-0 lead after forty minutes on goals by Adam Tambellini and Darren Nowick. Tambellni, in his first BCHL season now has five goals and three assists in six games.
In the third, the Vipers increased their lead to 3-0 on a goal by Colton Sparrow, his second of the season. Josh Hansen scored his third of the season to bring the Chiefs within two but that was as close as they got. Alex Hagen's first BCHL goal rounded out the scoring.
Mitch Gillam made 29 saves in goal for the Chiefs. Kirby Halcrow stopped 26 shots to earn the win for the Vipers
The Chiefs were 0/4 on the power play and 3/4 on the penalty kill.
Chilliwack's next game is Saturday night in Westside.
