The Chiefs built up an early 3-0 lead and hung on for a 5-4 victory in Vernon Saturday night.
With the win, the Chiefs improve to 8-6-0-1 on the season and move into a tie with the Prince George Spruce Kings for fourth spot in the Interior Conference.
Chilliwack stormed out to a 3-0 lead by the 16:33 mark of the first period on goals by Derek Huisman (10th), Trevor Hills (7th) and Mathieu Tibbet (1st).
The lead was short lived as Vernon got goals from Max Mowat (1st) and Alex Hagen (4th) in the latter moments of the first period to make the score 3-2 after one period.
In the second, the Vipers tied it at three when Peter McMullen (1st) scored at the 2:30 mark. It took the Chiefs just 41 seconds to regain the lead when Jaret Babych scored his 2nd of the season.
In the third period, Malcolm Gould's fourth of the season at 3:06 gave the Chiefs a 5-3 lead.
Marcus Basara's fourth goal of the season brought the Vipers to within a goal but that was as close as they got.
Bryton Udy made 41 saves to earn the victory for the Chiefs.
Vernon net minder Kirby Halcrow allowed three goals on eight shots before being replced by Danny Todosychuk who stopped 15/17 in relief.
The Chiefs were 1/5 with the man advantage and 5/6 on the penalty kill.
