The Chilliwack Chiefs have acquired 20 year old defenseman Matthew Hutchinson from the Coquitlam Express in exchange for future considerations. The defensive minded Hutchinson has played 89 games in the BCHL with Surrey, Quesnel and the Express recording 14 points and 120 penalty minutes. The North Vancouver product tips the scales at 6’1 and 196 pounds and shoots left.
Chiefs Head Coach and General Manager Harvey Smyl feels Hutchinson will add some much needed grit to his blue line, “Matthew takes pride in his defensive play and enjoys the physical part of the game, he is your prototypical stay at home defenseman.” As for Hutchinson, he is excited to be a Chief, “Chilliwack has a very good facility and has great fans. I am looking forward to playing for Harvey.” Hutchinson will be in Chilliwack today.
To make room for the transaction, 19 year old defenseman Justin Elliot was released. The Chiefs wish to thank Justin for his hard work both on and off of the ice in Chilliwack.
The Chiefs next home game is Friday night versus the Trail Smoke Eaters at 7pm at Prospera Centre.
