Chiefs rebound with 5-1 win in Coquitlam

Kaden Picking scored twice and Adam Berg added three assists at the Chiefs rebounded from a 6-2 setback at the hands of the Penticton Vees Saturday with a 5-1 win in Coquitlam Sunday afternoon.

Chilliwack (20-17-2-3) finished the weekend with a tie a loss and a win and gained some ground in the tight mainland division. They remain in fourth place but are now just five points back of all three teams ahead of them, Langley, Surrey and Prince George. They hold a game in hand on both Surrey and Langley.

Sunday the Chiefs again started strong, taking a 2-0 lead into the first intermission on goals by Corey Andonovski and Bryan Allbee.

Pickering’s first of the night, his 12th of the season was the only goal of the middle period.

Pickering’s second of the night upped the lead to four in the third before the Express got a power play goal from Josh Wildauer.

Skyler Brind’Amour rounded out the scoring with a late empty net goal.

Mathieu Caron earned the win in net with 15 saves. Clay Stevenson took the loss for the Express, turning away 24 Chiliwack shots.

Chilliwack finished 2/3 on the penalty kill and 0/4 on the power play.

The Chiefs are in Salmon Arm Friday before hosting the Victoria Grizzlies at 2pm on Sunday.
