PJ Marrocco scored twice and added an assist on Jared Turcotte’s late third period goal that snapped a 2-2 tie and gave the Chiefs a 3-2 win over the visiting Surrey Eagles Friday night.
The win snaps a four game losing streak for the Chiefs (23-21-3-3) and moved the Chiefs to within two points of the third place Langley Rivermen with a game in hand.
Chilliwack was the better team in the opening twenty minutes, outshooting the visitors 10-5 but both goaltenders Daniel Chenard and Eagles netminder Mario Cavaliere were perfect keeping the game scoreless.
Marrocco’s eighth of the season and fifth versus the Eagles gave the Chiefs a 1-0 lead with just under two minutes gone in the second period.
The Eagles found their stride getting goals from Desi Burgart and Owen Norton to take a 2-1 lead into the third period.
Marrocco’s second of the night at the 7:15 mark of the third knotted the game at two setting the table for Turcotte’s heroics with two minutes left.
Final shots in the game favored the Chiefs 30-27.
Both teams were 0/2 with the man advantage.
The Chiefs are back on home ice Sunday when they host the West Kelowna Warriors. Game time is 5pm.
