Chiefs shutout Spruce Kings 3-0 in game one

Adam Berg scored once and added an assist while Daniel Chenard stopped all 18 shots he faced as the visiting Chiefs took game one of their best of seven series versus the Prince George Spruce Kings by a score of 3-0.

It was Chiefs forward Berg who opened the scoring at the 5:26 mark of the first period.

Chiefs’ defenseman Bryan Albee started the play with a simple dump in into the Kings zone. The puck took a pro Chiefs bounce off the end boards and dropped right in front of the Kings net where Chiefs forward Skyler Brind’Amour had a point blank shot stopped by Kings goaltender Evan DeBrouwer. Following the puck into the corner was Chiefs forward Kaden Pickering who quickly worked his way to the right faceoff circle where he rang a shot off the post. The puck fell into the crease area where Berg was waiting to sweep home his first of the playoffs.

Shots through twenty minutes favored the visitors 11-7.

The Chiefs found themselves on the penalty kill in the opening minute of the second period. With Skyler Brind’Amour off for hooking, the penalty killers doubled the Chiefs lead.

A strong fore-check by Adam Berg led to the mishandling of the puck behind the Kings net by DeBrouwer and Kings forward Ethan DeJong. Berg was able to steal the puck, and quickly find Will Calverley in front who made no mistake, putting the Chiefs up 2-0.

Early in the third the Kings ran into penalty trouble taking a pair of minors two seconds apart putting the Chiefs up two men.

On the two man advantage the Chiefs had a series of chances in tight before the puck ended up on Chiefs forward Tommy Lee’s stick in the right corner. Lee fed the puck back to Allbee who waited for Lee to inch his way into a good shooting lane. Once Lee was there, Allbee slid the puck over and Lee’s one timer past DeBrouwer made it 3-0.

Final shots in the game were 27-18 in favor of Chilliwack.

The Chiefs were 1/3 on the power play and 2/2 on the penalty kill.

Game two is Saturday night in Prince George.
