Chiefs Edge Spruce Kings 3 – 2

The Chiefs earned their second straight win in Prince George Thursday night edging the Spruce Kings 3-2. The win comes just over 24 hours after downing the Coquitlam Express 3-1 at Prospera Centre on Wednesday.

Jake Smith opened the scoring for the Chiefs on the power play with the help of Kohen Olischefski and Olivier Arseneau at the 14:46 mark of the opening frame to give the Chiefs a  1-0 lead, a lead they would carry into the second period.

Twenty seven seconds into the second period, the Spruce Kings got onto the score sheet with an unassisted goal by Jamie Huber to tie the game at 1.  But it was the Chiefs Captain Jordan Kawaguchi who broke the tie with just over three minutes left in the second to give the hometown squad a 2-1 lead.  Twenty two seconds later Jake Smith tallied his second of the night to give the Chiefs a 3-1 lead heading into the 3rd period.

The Chiefs would carry the 3-1 lead for a majority of the third but Ben Brar answered for the Spruce Kings at the 16:47 mark to put his team within one but the Chiefs  managed to hang on for the win.

The Spruce Kings out shot the Chiefs 48-21. Mark Sinclair earned the win.  The Chiefs are now 20-7-4-0 and will travel back to back to Chilliwack to take on the Powell River Kings Friday night at Prospera Centre. Game time is 7pm.
