Chiefs edge Rivermen in double overtime

Kaden Pickering scored his first BCHL goal just ten seconds into the second overtime to give the Chiefs their first win of the season Saturday night in Langley.

It’s the second straight year the two teams have spoiled each other’s home opener. The Rivermen won 2-1 in Chilliwack Friday night.

After Brendan Budy scored his third of the season to give the Rivermen a 1-0 lead, Wyatt Elmer notched his second of the season to tie the game at one after twenty minutes.

In the second the Chiefs took three one goal leads only to see the Rivermen tie the game each time. Chiefs goals came from Will Calverley (4), Tommy Lee (2), and Skyler Brind’Amour (1). The Langley responses came from John Wojciechowski, Carter Stephenson, and Trevor St. Jean.

Final shots on goal favored the Chiefs 44-33.

Chilliwack was 0/6 on the power play and 3/4 on the penalty kill.

Mathieu Caron earned the win in goal while Langley’s Braeden Fleming took the loss.
