Chiefs blank Bulldogs 4-0

Winless in two Prospera Centre outings heading into Friday night, the Chiefs pummelled the Alberni Valley Bulldogs 4-0.

Aaron O’Neill led the offence with a pair of goals and Robert Jacobson stopped 21 shots for his first BCHL shutout in his first BCHL start.

Linden Hora collected the only goal of the first period, scoring on a Chilliwack power play.

Jordan Kawaguchi drew the assist, wheeling off the right-wing wall and finding Hora in the slot. From the right hash-mark, the 20 year old snapped the puck past Bulldogs keeper Brody Claeys for his second of the season.

Shots on goal favoured the Chiefs 9-5 through 20 minutes.

Three goals in 92 seconds early in the middle frame blew this one wide open.

Aaron O’Neill netted two of them. No. 18 in white collected the rebound of an Olivier Arseneau point shot and beat Claeys from the high slot for his first of the year. Thirteen seconds later it was Cole Poliziani collected a David Jankowski pass, chugging straight through the slot and slipping the puck past Claeys for his first BCHL tally.

O’Neill finished the flurry. Jake Smith cut right-to-left across the slot and fed a pass against the grain to O’Neill, who parked himself at the right goal-post. O’Neill had only to tap the puck across the line.

Rookie netminder Robert Jacobson was solid through 40 minutes.

His best save came in the early minutes of period three when Alberni Valley’s Alex MacDonald flew in on a breakaway. The Cali kid stretch post to post, preserving his shutout bid with the right leg pad.

Jacobson only had to made four more saves in a sleepy third period, earning second-star honours.

The other stars were Aaron O’Neill (first) and Connor McCarthy (third).

The Fortis BC Energy Player of the Game was Kale Kane.
